Hot or Not

Design by Anasthasia Shilov

Hot or Not is Hailey O’Connor’s (PC ’24) Massie Block-style assessment of what’s hot and what’s not each week.

Hot

The hottest combination of the week: sweet potato chips and Cedar’s black bean salad. (Combination must be from the Bow Wow.)

After eating this, my body thanks me. Thank you, Hailey, for eating real food. We were getting sick of Chocolate Chex in a to-go cup. In my defense, it’s hard to eat produce. The Cedar’s black bean salad is nice and fresh, and it scoops up quite nicely on the sweet potato chips. The general weirdness of beans is canceled out by the aesthetic crunch of the chip. I wish I knew how much this combo costs—probably $19. But I just use my points and swipe, swipe away.

Not

Every Sunday, Starr Library is packed. Not only that, but somehow, every person I drunkenly saw the night before is sitting directly in my line of sight. I can’t ever study in peace because I keep having flashbacks to last night’s terrible interactions and sloppy mistakes.

I know that Starr Library isn’t a fashion show, but I always feel like I look more decrepit than everyone else. My makeup wipes never work well enough, so I know I have a Twiggy-esque look going on. My hair probably isn’t washed. My Sunday Scaries force me to wear sweats, but when I pull up to Starr and see that someone is carrying a Louis Vuitton tote bag, I immediately regret my choices. This happens every Sunday, without fail.
