Hot or Not is Hailey O’Connor’s (PC ’24) Massie Block-style assessment of what’s hot and what’s not each week.
Hot
I have been 21 since June. I can’t believe it took me this long to go to Penny Drinks. The drinks are not a penny (they’re a dollar) but still—what a deal! Honestly, the bars should be way more crowded for $1 drinks. Good on Toad’s for the marketing scheme; it really is a great way to get upperclassmen to turn up to Woads. Considering it was Valentine’s Day (my favorite holiday) and Penny Drinks (a bargain), I thought Wednesday was a hit. Also, I was photographed and featured in the Woads email. What could be better?
The only thing I didn’t realize was that you have to pay in cash. I guess if I’d thought about it hard enough, I could have anticipated that, but now I know for next time!
Not
Oh my God. How am I going to make it through February? This month is painful.
There are no breaks. There are no fun parties. Everyone is drowning in work. I am sick of going to Sterling, and there’s nothing good on TV. I am rewatching Normal People for the fourth time—which is indeed a reflection of my emotional state.
Overall, February is the not-hottest thing imaginable. I love Valentine’s Day, but now that it’s over, what do I have to look forward to? Literally nothing. Instead, I will quote a poem by Wallace Stevens:
“One must have a mind of winter … not to think of any misery in the sound of the wind.”
