That Hamilton Woman (1941)
A beautiful and devastating film starring a still-married Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier. Like many historical dramas, it could just be a Wikipedia article.
War and Peace (1966)
Like mother like daughter, this is also one of my favorite films. If you don’t love your mom, I probably would not watch this with her because it is seven hours long. If you are a mom, I probably would not watch this with your kid because they might end up becoming a film major.
A City of Sadness (1989)
This is the only favorite movie of my mom’s I haven’t seen. So no comment. I’m sure it’s good though.
The Philadelphia Story (1940)
When I texted my mom “what are your favorite movies” I was shocked that she initially left The Philadelphia Story out. “It depends on my mood,” she explained. “Sometimes comedy is my fave but sometimes it is not.” That’s the duality of woman for you. If comedy is your fave, you definitely should check out The Philadelphia Story. A screwball comedy with Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and James Stewart? Set in Philadelphia, the town my mom decided to birth me in? It’s quite good.
