BEER

Among the 229 beer varieties produced by Kent Falls Brewing Co. of Kent, CT, one can taste “Patio Chair,” “Zep on the Jukebox,” “ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ,” “Trapped in Habitual Nostalgia,” “PEMDAS,” “Haircuts for Everybody,” “SuperscriptTM,” “Lil Gimme,” and “Waggle.” I did not. I had NEW IPA.

NEW IPA tastes like all the other IPAs I’ve tasted, which is to say, it’s pretty good. It’s crispy and bitter but not too bitter, and it’s fruity in an appealing way. It’s yummy enough to sip, but better when gulped. The excess carbonation comes as a pleasant surprise. At 6.6% ABV, it is the perfect drinking beer. (Now would be the appropriate time to mention that regular Herald beer critic and Reviews editor Theo Kubovy-Weiss is out-of-office this week.)

What else to say. This NEW IPA, brewed in January of 2024, is the 8th batch brewed under the NEW IPA name (sadly absent are the “punchy grapefruit, strawberry, white peach, tangerine, and lemon hop notes” that blessed Batch 5). According to the label, IPA stands for “Imperial Pale Ale.”

You can buy a 4-pack for $19&change at Atticus Bookstore and Cafe (did you know that people really buy the beers at Atticus? Mia did. You can venmo her @mia-rodvars to support our design team).
